Steamwalker
Steamwalker
I’ve been wanting to do a steampunk/Star Wars hilt mashup for a while. Something that felt like it had some manual action to it, slidey controls, lots of springs and gears and an uncalled for amount of tarnished brass and copper. I like the idea that the individual that owns this saber lives down by the docks, cruising around on steam powered boats over cold salty seas. At the end of the day they fire up some kinda crazy generator and plug this into it to recharge it.
Big shout out to user Wszou on Reddit for the awesome name idea!
CONSTRUCTION/CUSTOMIZATION
All my hilts are designed with a steel threaded rod running down the middle for structural stability as well as working with the emitter/pommel(each have a sunken steel bolt) to combine the unit. The ends twist on, allowing the owner to customize the order of the components, their orientation and swap in new parts at any time down the road.(last pic in gallery shows swapped in parts)
WEIGHT = 12.8 oz
LENGTH = 11.37 inches
WIDTH = 1.37 inches at grip 2.25 at the widest part of the switch assembly
FYI/CYA DISCLAIMER
The following is a fictional break down of the physical features of the hilt. These are the features I envisioned while I was designing it. Sadly, the hilt will not actually produce a cutting blade and is made of resin, not metal.)
THE GOODS
Emitter/Shield- Copper rotational gatling style blade emitter featuring 8 smaller ports around a main central energy source. Each small port is flanked with a stabilization unit to aid in an even dependable blade.
Switch Assembly - A heavily modified Boltech 2000 unit. A main slide ignitor switch, indicator lights, a pressure gauge and steam couplings all help this unit to function at peak capacity. Heavily vented to aid in heat distribution.
Couplers- Two copper gear collars and a lower stabilization unit that assist the weirder in more demanding maneuvers. The stabilization unit is gyro controlled and depends on the main switch array for power.
Main Grip- High grade nautical brass knurled with an ultra grippy texture to give strong traction even when the users hands are wet from the sea. Hardened titanium collars and screws keep everything balanced and in order.
Pommel - composite material brass/tungsten. The bottom gear can used it tandem with data ports to update and repair the saber.
OPTIONS - This hilt is available in two forms.
Raw Resin Kit - Fresh out of the print vat, will need a small amount of sanding(the beauty of resin printing vs pla, incredibly smooth surfaces right off the printer and super easy to sand. I will give it a once-over and remove any small support burns or uneven surfaces so you’re all ready to prime and paint.
Turn Around Time - Parts are printed per order and average print time per hilt is 12 to 16 hours. Should ship within 7-10 days of order.
OR!
Premiere Display - This piece will be given my utmost level of attention and detail, sanded, primed and painted. It will come with a certificate of authenticity card which will include the Soupcan13 badge of quality as well as my signature and will include its run number(I plan on doing a total of 200 in this run). My painting process includes, all parts deburred and sanded, priming, airbrushing the base coat, applying color coats, masking and applying secondary detail colors, detail painting, black wash/corrosion wash and finally 3 coats of high quality clear coat to protect from chips, scratches and prevent paint from wearing due to handling.
Turn around time - Parts are painted per order and average paint time per hilt is 6 to 8 hours. Should ship within 15-18 days of order.
