Mai Tai Jedi
Mai Tai Jedi
The last dozen sabers I've designed have been pretty serious/sci-fi so I wanted to go goofy and humorous with this one. I was thinking "what if the cantina in Mos Eisley had actually been a tiki bar?" I've been a huge fan of tiki bars my whole life and was curious about how the tropical nautical/ocean theme, brass weathered by the sea and carved, stained and polished wood look would feel like on a lightsaber. There's a hidden pirate treasure coin in the rum barrel pomel, the switch assembly is a fruit crate with hints of polynisian tattoos in the slider and of course a pineapple emmitter.
CONSTRUCTION/CUSTOMIZATION
All my hilts are designed with a steel threaded rod running down the middle for structural stability as well as working with the emitter/pommel(each have a sunken steel bolt) to combine the unit. The ends twist on, allowing the owner to customize the order of the components, their orientation and swap in new parts at any time down the road.(last pic in gallery shows swapped in parts)
WEIGHT = 10.6 oz
LENGTH = 12 inches
WIDTH = 1.25 inches at grip 1.25 at the widest part of the switch
FYI/CYA DISCLAIMER
The following is a fictional break down of the physical features of the hilt. These are the features I envisioned while I was designing it. Sadly the hilt will not actually produce a cutting blade and is made of resin, not metal.)
THE GOODS
Emitter/Shield- This design features a sturdy main port surrounded by 8 smaller jets for stabilization and energy control. Double rings of decorative brass pineapple leaves offer not only decorative panache but can come in handy as an impact weapon/muddler
Switch Assembly - I designed a the switch box to pay homage to one of the most important elements of any tiki bar, the fruit and the giant wooden crates it’s shipped in, a Polynesian design decorates the slider and leads it’s way up to the igniter button, a brass port hole with a sea glass buoy. The opposite side features a watchful tiki, protecting and silently guarding you on your tropical space adventures.
Couplers- Two brass couplers are patterned after coiled rope lashings. No solid sea fairings ship is complete without a good supply of road and this hilt is no different.
Main Grip- Blessed by the village shaman, cut and carved from a single piece of bamboo and guilted with brass and gold. It gives the hilt a sleek and regal appearance but also helpful texture when your hands are covered in sea water, blood or booze.
Pommel - One of the most precious commodities of any tiki bar, a rum barrel adorns the bottom of this hilt and when you peek underneath a shiny hidden pirate coin is nestled inside.
OPTIONS - This hilt is available in two forms.
Raw Resin Kit - fresh out of the print vat, will need a small amount of sanding(the beauty of resin printing vs pla, incredibly smooth surfaces right off the printer and super easy to sand. I will give it a once-over and remove any small support burns or uneven surfaces so you’re all ready to prime and paint.
Turn around time - Parts are printed per order and average print time per hilt is 12 to 16 hours. Should ship within 7-10 days of order.
OR!
Premiere Display - This piece will be given my utmost level of attention and detail, sanded, primed and painted. It will come with a certificate of authenticity card which will include the Soupcan13 badge of quality as well as my signature and will include its run number(I plan on doing a total of 200 in this run). My painting process includes, all parts deburred and sanded, priming, airbrushing the base coat, applying color coats, masking and applying secondary detail colors, detail painting, black wash/corrosion wash and finally 3 coats of high quality clear coat to protect from chips, scratches and prevent paint from wearing due to handling.
Turn around time - Parts are painted per order and average paint time per hilt is 6 to 8 hours. Should ship within 15-18 days of order.
