Gundam Inspired Saber
Gundam Inspired Saber
This one is a bit of a curve ball from my normal designs. A few months ago, Ruben Ocampo, incredibly awesome dude and mega saber knowledge wizard, asked me if I could design a saber that was a cross of my design style, the feel of a Star Wars saber and a Beam Saber from the Gundam giant mech series. I’m always down for a challenge so we sat down and started brainstorming and a few weeks later this was the brain child of our collaboration. It’s the first saber I’ve ever designed that features moving parts(a pivoting hand guard/shield) as well as dual emitters. It was a blast to work on and I’m incredibly proud of the end product.
CONSTRUCTION/CUSTOMIZATION
All my hilts are designed with a steel threaded rod running down the middle for structural stability as well as working with the emitter/pommel(each have a sunken steel bolt) to combine the unit. The ends twist on, allowing the owner to customize the order of the components, their orientation and swap in new parts at any time down the road.(last pic in gallery shows swapped in parts)
WEIGHT = 12.5 oz
LENGTH = 14 inches
WIDTH = 1.5 inches at grip 7 at the hand shield
FYI/CYA DISCLAIMER
The following is a fictional break down of the physical features of the hilt. These are the features I envisioned while I was designing it. Sadly the hilt will not actually produce a cutting blade and is made of resin, not metal.)
THE GOODS
Emitters/Shields - A first for me, dual copper emitters ride on the top and bottom of this hilt. The larger main emitter features a main port with 8 smaller jets and a control ring as well as heavy heat disappearing fins running down the sides. The secondary smaller emitter features one massive jet surrounded by control fins to help manage energy projection.
Switch Assembly - A palm triggered main switch runs down the spine of the grip to eliminate on fumbling during the heat of battle. Unique to their design the grip and ignition assembly are incorporated into the same module. Large heat dissipation shields flank both sides to keep the unit from overheating.
Coupler - This hilt features a single segmented coupler that also doubles as the hinge attach point for the hand guard. Providing a huge amount of defensive cover for wielders hand, it projects out almost 5.5 inches from the grip.
OPTIONS - This hilt is available in two forms.
Raw Resin Kit - fresh out of the print vat, will need a small amount of sanding(the beauty of resin printing vs pla, incredibly smooth surfaces right off the printer and super easy to sand. I will give it a once-over and remove any small support burns or uneven surfaces so you’re all ready to prime and paint.(because of the nature of this hilt, the raw resin version ships with the hand guard in three pieces, the shield and the two sides of the hinge, they will need to be epoxied together at some point of the painting/fabrication process)
Turn around time - Parts are printed per order and average print time per hilt is 12 to 16 hours. Should ship within 7-10 days of order.
OR!
Premiere Display - This piece will be given my utmost level of attention and detail, sanded, primed and painted. It will come with a certificate of authenticity card which will include the Soupcan13 badge of quality as well as my signature and will include its run number(I plan on doing a total of 200 in this run). My painting process includes, all parts deburred and sanded, priming, airbrushing the base coat, applying color coats, masking and applying secondary detail colors, detail painting, black wash/corrosion wash and finally 3 coats of high quality clear coat to protect from chips, scratches and prevent paint from wearing due to handling.
Turn around time - Parts are painted per order and average paint time per hilt is 6 to 8 hours. Should ship within 15-18 days of order.
