Hakuna Matata

Hakuna Matata

from $95.00

This was by far one of the most challenging but awesomely original saber requests I have received. The commissioner wanted the hilt to be inspired by their husband’s favorite movie, The Lion King and Ashoka Tano’s curved saber hilt. Their only request was that Hakuna Matata be displayed somewhere on the hilt. After a brief convo hashing out the details I sat down on my couch and though “Well Dave, you’ve gotten yourself into a fine pickle with this one…” Several hours later of google image search browsing references and a viewing of the Lion King and I had a rough idea of where I was headed. I’m really really pleased with how this came out. Just goes to show, if you don’t take life to seriously and not get wrapped up in the worries, everything will work out ok.

CONSTRUCTION/CUSTOMIZATION

All my hilts are designed with a steel threaded rod running down the middle for structural stability, this hilt is slightly different from my reconfigure able hilts as it is a solid hit once assembled.

WEIGHT = 11.3 oz

LENGTH = 11 inches

WIDTH = 1.6 inches on the widest angle of the grip

FYI/CYA DISCLAIMER

The following is a fictional break down of the physical features of the hilt. These are the features I envisioned while I was designing it. Sadly the hilt will not actually produce a cutting blade and is made of resin, not metal.)

THE GOODS

Emitter - Tri blade ports mounted vertically to accommodate this hilts narrow build. Nestled in a brass housing.

Switch Assembly - Unusual for my builds, the activation switch is mounted in the lower grip, putting in inline with the following hand rather than the dominant. A small builder engraving of Simba sits on the back of the upper portion of the grip.

Couplers - Two ornamental brass semi couplers adde balance and weight to mid point of this hilt as well as tactile location points for the user to find their bearing while wielding.

Main Grip- Carved from decorative wood and emblazoned with Hakuna Matata down the sides in Aurebesh, this grip is made for agility, durability and visual presence.

Pommel - Minimal and sleek, a main attachment bolt rides above a charging port. A small ring of decorative wood sits right above the pommel to tie in with the main grip.

OPTIONS - This hilt is available in two forms.

Raw Resin Kit - fresh out of the print vat, will need a small amount of sanding(the beauty of resin printing vs pla, incredibly smooth surfaces right off the printer and super easy to sand. I will give it a once-over and remove any small support burns or uneven surfaces so you’re all ready to prime and paint.

Turn around time - Parts are printed per order and average print time per hilt is 12 to 16 hours. Should ship within 7-10 days of order.

OR!

Premiere Display - This piece will be given my utmost level of attention and detail, sanded, primed and painted. It will come with a certificate of authenticity card which will include the Soupcan13 badge of quality as well as my signature and will include its run number(I plan on doing a total of 200 in this run). My painting process includes, all parts deburred and sanded, priming, airbrushing the base coat, applying color coats, masking and applying secondary detail colors, detail painting, black wash/corrosion wash and finally 3 coats of high quality clear coat to protect from chips, scratches and prevent paint from wearing due to handling.

Turn around time - Parts are painted per order and average paint time per hilt is 6 to 8 hours. Should ship within 15-18 days of order.
