Smuggler’s Best Friend

Smuggler’s Best Friend

$600.00

If you asked me what was cooler, a blaster pistol or a light saber, when I was 8 years old, I would have been totally stumped. A lot has changed over the years, and if you asked me the same question today, I’d still be stumped, ha ha. I remember seeing A New Hope for the first time at a friends house and when Han broke leather and dusted Greedo, my eyes were like dinner plates, definitely the most decisive negotiation tactic my young self had ever seen.

Han’s dl-44 blaster pistol has been a scifi favorite of mine for decades. I love how real world it feels but also how pumped up and insanely bizarre it feels at the same time. I remember sometime around when I was in high school a company came out with a model of the Falcon that had all sorts of removable magnetic panels to see interior details, and I thought “maaaan, someone needs to make Han’s blaster like that” well turns out like 20 years later that someone was me.

I designed this prop from the ground up to be disassembled. The barrel attachment, power core, side panel, upper and lower, grip scales(and their hidden components) and optics are all held together with super powerful rare earth magnets and attach and detach with zero tools.

Going forward, I am planning on creating alternate grips, cover plates, optics and optic port covers, grip items, power cores and barrel attachments, all using the same magnetic attachment system.

Ships with the pictured fully metal and padded stand so you can keep her standing proud.

CONSTRUCTION/CUSTOMIZATION

WEIGHT = 20.55 oz(she’s a big girl and has got it where it counts)

LENGTH = 12.625 inches from the tip of the barrel to the back of the scope

WIDTH = 7” from the top of the scope to the bottom of the grip, 3.5” from the top to the bottom of the grip.

FYI/CYA DISCLAIMER

The following is a fictional break down of the physical features of the hilt. These are the features I envisioned while I was designing it. Sadly the hilt will not actually produce a cutting blade and is made of resin, not metal.)

THE GOODS

Upper Pistol - Rugged and chunky. Held to the lower by 3 ultra strong rare earth magnets. Using your thumb as a lever while holding the grip, the user can easily fulcrum the upper off to access the power core maintenance/ejection button. The barrel also holds a magnet to allow various barrel attachments. One more magnet at the back to provide a 4 points attachment to the lower.

Lower - houses both the grip containment system as well as the power core and removable side panel. Using the power core ejection button detaches the magnetic retention on the core and allows for easy removal. Careful inspection of the back portion of the lower reveals a concealed rebel insignia.

Grip Scales - Integral magnets seal the scales to the frame and the right scale sports an additional two magnets to hold the tracking unit and stash of Imperial credits sturdily in place. No rattling when in movement or during inspection.

Barrel attachment - Rugged and sturdy, adds to both accuracy and cooling properties from when things get heated.

Optics - For when you really want to reach out and touch someone. Secured tightly to the side of the lower with a set of 6 magnets as well as a pair of interlocking cleats.

Side cover - located on the front left of the lower, magnets secure the cover in place but a small invention allows for easy removal to check on the round acceleration unit.

Power core - Housed in the lower front of the blaster lower, partial removal for level checks or full removal to completely replace the unit. Held in place by two magnets, the ejection button accessed by removing the upper makes for easy access.

Grip units - The upper cell holds a tracking unit, it can be activated and kept in the blaster or removed and placed on an individual or location. The lower cell of the grip holds a stash of 3 Imperial credits kept secure in a currency unit.

Stand - Constructed of robust steel and padded with foam rubber to protect the finish and paint of your blaster while displaying it in all its glory.

This piece will be given my utmost level of attention and detail, sanded, primed and painted. It will come with a certificate of authenticity card which will include the Soupcan13 badge of quality as well as my signature and will include its run number(I plan on doing a total of 200 in this run). My painting process includes, all parts deburred and sanded, priming, airbrushing the base coat, applying color coats, masking and applying secondary detail colors, detail painting, black wash/corrosion wash and finally 3 coats of high quality clear coat to protect from chips, scratches and prevent paint from wearing due to handling.

Turn around time - Parts are painted per order and average paint time per blaster is around 36 hours. Should ship within 25 to 40 days of order.
