Sabers/blasters

Desert Born

Desert Born

from $95.00

My design take on Luke’s infamous saber. I’ve always loved the hilt from the time I first saw it on the silver screen as a wee lad. I kicked the textures and mechanical doodads and widgets up to 11 and got a little spicy with the metals(black and silver are sooooo 80’s….we need some copper and patina in there!). I wanted this to feel like a Jedi spent a good 6 hours scouring an old shipyard looking for components and then spent a week tuning and tweaking the design until he felt he could trust it with their life. I’ve always thought the classic emitter was a little bit of a letdown, basically a disc with a pipe sticking out of it. This version has all sorts of piping, ports and jets. I carved up the grip/handle section so she feels like she clamps back on your hand when you pick her up.

CONSTRUCTION/CUSTOMIZATION

All my hilts are designed with a steel threaded rod running down the middle for structural stability as well as working with the emitter/pommel(each have a sunken steel bolt) to combine the unit. The ends twist on, allowing the owner to customize the order of the components, their orientation and swap in new parts at any time down the road.

WEIGHT = 15.4 oz

LENGTH = 11.5 inches

WIDTH = 1.5 inches at grip 2.125 widest part of switch

FYI/CYA DISCLAIMER

The following is a fictional break down of the physical features of the hilt. These are the features I envisioned while I was designing it. Sadly the hilt will not actually produce a cutting blade and is made of resin, not metal.)

THE GOODS

Emitter/Shield-mono construction shield/emitter design. Ultra wide shielding to protect from saber clashing. A central port for blade shape with 6 smaller side ports to assist with jetting and 6 ports interlaced between them for coolant purposes. An array of tri micro ports repeat around the edge of the shielding. Everything a saber weirder could wish for in blade control and stabilization.

Switch assembly - Kept the classic rocker style setting switch and green/red arrow controls. A large golden slider switch adorns the face of the array. Simple, classic and gets the job done.

Couplers - Top coupler, dual level, copper on top and titanium on the bottom. Sleek and slender with a control disk dividing the two halves. Bottom coupler, a copper grid pattern and she’s a thiccy. Almost double the thickness of a standard spacer and packed full of detail for added grip and control while dueling.

Main Grip- Iconic, classic, you know exactly what you’re looking at when you see it. 9 ribs run from top to bottom, I added a series of slots down the lateral sides for horizontal grip control and a series of scalloped dimples across the front for thumb purchase. A series of 4 hex screws run up the spine.

Pommel - The classic knobby style with a few new tricks. Side to side hex bolts at the top, two around the radius of the knob and one massive big mama jamma of a hex bolt at the bottom. She’s built for control, long lasting durability and hammering some plastoid body armor if need be.

OPTIONS - This hilt is available in two forms.

Raw Resin Kit - fresh out of the print vat, will need a small amount of sanding(the beauty of resin printing vs pla, incredibly smooth surfaces right off the printer and super easy to sand. I will give it a once over and remove any small support burns or uneven surfaces so you’re all ready to prime and paint.

Turn Around Time - Parts are printed per order and average print time per hilt is 12 to 16 hours. Should ship within 7-10 days of order.

OR!

Premiere Display - This piece will be given my utmost level of attention and detail, sanded, primed and painted. It will come with a certificate of authenticity card which will include the Soupcan13 badge of quality as well as my signature and will include its run number(I plan on doing a total of 200 in this run). My painting process includes, all parts deburred and sanded, priming, airbrushing the base coat, applying color coats, masking and applying secondary detail colors, detail painting, black wash/corrosion wash and finally 3 coats of high quality clear coat to protect from chips, scratches and prevent paint from wearing due to handling.

Turn Around Time - Parts are painted per order and average paint time per hilt is 6 to 8 hours. Should ship within 15-18 days of order.
