Dark Days

Dark Days

from $95.00

I’ve been really looking forward to making this hilt. In a way it’s a sort of symbol for a phoenix rising from the ashes. Vader definitely made some bad life choices and the evolution his saber defiantly followed his “career path” I added a touch of oxidized copper to the color scheme(cause a Sith Lord needs a little bling to feel pretty some times) My favorite detail on this one is found nestled on the upper grip on the right side of the switch right below the emitter. I etched the little design he gave to Padme when he was a kid. It’s sort of bitter sweet to think of him sitting in the shadows carving it sadly into the side of his hilt, remembering better brighter days.

CONSTRUCTION/CUSTOMIZATION

All my hilts are designed with a steel threaded rod running down the middle for structural stability as well as working with the emitter/pommel(each have a sunken steel bolt) to combine the unit. The ends twist on, allowing the owner to customize the order of the components, their orientation and swap in new parts at any time down the road.(last pic in gallery shows swapped in parts)

WEIGHT = 13 oz

LENGTH = 11 inches

WIDTH = 2 inches at grip 3.75 at the switch

FYI/CYA DISCLAIMER

The following is a fictional break down of the physical features of the hilt. These are the features I envisioned while I was designing it. Sadly the hilt will not actually produce a cutting blade and is made of resin, not metal.)

THE GOODS

Emitter/Shield- I went pretty nuts on this emitter, I stayed pretty traditional with the shield but the emitter itself is 8 angled mini jets around a slotted main port. I like to imagine this setup is capable of a terrifyingly intense blade generation.

Switch Assembly - I stayed pretty loyal to the original design on this component. It’s a two parter, half angled down low in the middle of the grip and the ignition controls on the upper side of the hilt. I got a little flashy adding an patinaed copper to the touch controls of the lower switch.

Couplers- Ani ain’t gots none! Sith Lords ain’t got no time for that jibba jibba!

Main Grip- The classic big beefy “windshield wiper” lower grip. This bad boy is begging to be wielded on handed. Pretty much the grand champ of traction. If you manage to drop this you should probably switch to a blaster. Also fun Easter egg, the upper grip has the etching he carved onto a Japor snippet and gave to Padme carved into it, by far my favorite part of this hilt.

Pommel - I went way off target on this element. I threw a big bold Imperial logo into the pommel. Vader pretty much threw his whole future out the window for the Empire so I figured he want to show it loud and proud on his weapon of choice.

OPTIONS - This hilt is available in two forms.

Raw Resin Kit - fresh out of the print vat, will need a small amount of sanding(the beauty of resin printing vs pla, incredibly smooth surfaces right off the printer and super easy to sand. I will give it a once-over and remove any small support burns or uneven surfaces so you’re all ready to prime and paint.

Turn around time - Parts are printed per order and average print time per hilt is 12 to 16 hours. Should ship within 7-10 days of order.

OR!

Premiere Display - This piece will be given my utmost level of attention and detail, sanded, primed and painted. It will come with a certificate of authenticity card which will include the Soupcan13 badge of quality as well as my signature and will include its run number(I plan on doing a total of 200 in this run). My painting process includes, all parts deburred and sanded, priming, airbrushing the base coat, applying color coats, masking and applying secondary detail colors, detail painting, black wash/corrosion wash and finally 3 coats of high quality clear coat to protect from chips, scratches and prevent paint from wearing due to handling.

Turn around time - Parts are painted per order and average paint time per hilt is 6 to 8 hours. Should ship within 15-18 days of order.
