MAKE A SABER WITH A BLADE/ELECTRONICS!!!!!
Ok ok ok I get it, not everyone likes static props. You all spoke and I listened. I used an LGT core and built up a saber hilt around the design. It was definitely a learning process but I learned a ton of awesome things. Big shout outs to Sean Johnson and Ruben Ocampo for all the positive energy and advice.
I designed this hilt to be a big beefy deep space brawler. A hilt that would feel at home in the deep cold of space or lopping off arms in a cantina. I wanted to give the user a choice of several grip options. Single handed mid grip(around the switch area) works well, a two hand grip favors the dominate hand up by the emitter/sub hilt. I put the sub hilt(brass disc between the upper grip/emitter section, in as a control point for the dominant hand, it gives a ledge that nestles between the pointer and middle finger and lets you have a bit of pendulum swing to the saber. The non dominate hand can rest on the mega solid frag patter lower grip giving more brute strength grasping traction.
The LGT core(not included) rides inside a copper pipe that adds strength and attachment screw points for the core, blade and disassembly break down screw to remove the bottom half of the saber(hilt is two pieces, the upper emitter/upper grip and switch/lower grip pommel.) Two grub screws thread through the hilt into the copper pip and hold the blade secure.
CONSTRUCTION/CUSTOMIZATION
My first hilt to incorporate a copper inner sleeve inside the resin outer hilt. Any core with a standard LGT mounting bolt/single button charging port configuration should fit.
WEIGHT = 11.96 oz(no core)
LENGTH = 11 inches
WIDTH = 2 inches at the thickest part of the grip
FYI/CYA DISCLAIMER
The following is a fictional break down of the physical features of the hilt. These are the features I envisioned while I was designing it. Sadly the hilt will not actually produce a cutting blade(but it can fit a decorative electronic one not included) and is made of resin, not metal.(with the exception of the inner copper sleeve)
THE GOODS
Emitter/Shield- A super aggressive basket style emitter, big and heavy. Just as dangerous on as it is off as it could be swung as a mace in a pinch. Two energy binding rings ride on the upper edge to help center the energy blade. Perforated shielding orbit the side to help with energy dispersion.
Switch Assembly - A lower slider assembly pairs up with an upper ignition button. Simple and sleek, easy to find in the dark and there when you need it.
Main Grip- A dual purpose grip, the upper section is for delicate and precise maneuvering, the brass sub hilt allowed for a fulcrum point when gripped between the pointer and middle finger. The lower grip adds extra traction for intense moments or heated combat.
Pommel - A classic design, louvered at the bottom to aid in heat disputation.
OPTIONS - This hilt is available in two forms.
Raw Resin Kit - fresh out of the print vat, will need a small amount of sanding(the beauty of resin printing vs pla, incredibly smooth surfaces right off the printer and super easy to sand. I will give it a once-over and remove any small support burns or uneven surfaces so you’re all ready to prime and paint. Also includes inner copper sleeve pre drilled and tapped to accommodate an LGT core (not included)
Turn around time - Parts are printed per order and average print time per hilt is 12 to 16 hours. Should ship within 7-10 days of order.
OR!
Premiere Display - This piece will be given my utmost level of attention and detail, sanded, primed and painted. It will come with a certificate of authenticity card which will include the Soupcan13 badge of quality as well as my signature and will include its run number(I plan on doing a total of 200 in this run). My painting process includes, all parts deburred and sanded, priming, airbrushing the base coat, applying color coats, masking and applying secondary detail colors, detail painting, black wash/corrosion wash and finally 3 coats of high quality clear coat to protect from chips, scratches and prevent paint from wearing due to handling. Also includes inner copper sleeve pre drilled and tapped to accommodate an LGT core (not included)
Turn around time - Parts are painted per order and average paint time per hilt is 6 to 8 hours. Should ship within 15-18 days of order.
As mentioned 3x above the core and blade are not included. Please don’t be the first person to email me and go “Hey I didn’t get a blade/core” because I will reply with this disclaimer.
